Verizon New FIOS TV+ Stream TV Device Limitations

MacGyver

Unsurprisingly Verizon has launched a new product line without actually telling any of there Technicians or Customer Support staff how it actually works. Even worse, they have removed commonly expected features!

If are planning on, or like many, been recently just given new cable boxes only to find out they do not work with your Universal Remote and don't even have a cable or network jack on the back for quick connection!

This is because these boxes are primarily designed to work wirelessly, and with their remote only. And you currently need the latest Fios Wireless Gateway to operate them, so this is causing a lot of disruption with adopters other systems.

To review the issues are:

  1. No Cable or Network Jacks on Fios TV+ StreamTV boxes for when Wi-Fi doesn't work.

  2. No IR remote control receiver built-in to Fios TV+ StreamTV cable box

So how to fix these Issues?

Add a network or cable line, instead of using Wifi.

The issue here is that if your box is far away from the Gateway, it just won't work well.. even if you have the Verizon wifi extenders, because the new boxes work only with special wifi signal that is currently only broadcast by the Gateway unit. So its either move your router closer or use this new adapter...

You will need the Stream TV MoCA Ethernet Adapter (Sold by Verizon here )

Iron Hill AV also has these and can install for you, as some configuration and rebooting may be required to insure it works properly.

Add an IR receiver for custom remotes, instead of using the Verizon Remote.

The issue here is that if your box only works with its own Bluetooth Remote control, this is no good for those who use universal remotes. So its either stick with the Verizon remote, or use this new adapter and have all the options...

You will need the Stream TV IR Remote USB C Adapter (Sold by Verizon here )

Iron Hill AV also has these and can install for you, as some configuration and rebooting may be required to insure it works properly. We may also need to update your remote codes for compatibility.
